Yahoo Supports CET's San Jose Career Center

Rose Salazar At the recent Executive Business Luncheon, held at the Sobrato CET Center, Rose Salazar, Job Developer and CET Career Center Director was presented with a Camp Yahoo! guidebook. "Developed by the company that made the Web easy to use, Camp Yahoo! explains how to find anything, connect with anyone, shop for anything, and protect yourself and your kids online. And have fun while you're doing it."

Rose Salazar has developed a training manual for all students using the Career Center for their job hunting activities. "The training includes the Camp Yahoo content... every student that graduates from CET has a Yahoo Mail account, and knows how to send and receive emails with attachments! This has been a tremendous help to our graduating students, and to me as an instructor in the Center, said Ms. Salazar."

On August 11, 2000, Yahoo founder Jerry Yang announced the Camp Yahoo initiative, "We're proud of our basic Internet training curriculum intended for newcomers to the Web." The Camp Yahoo teaching materials are available free of charge to members of qualified non-profit organizations, community centers, libraries, schools, and service groups.

The CET Sobrato Career Center is a tremendous resource for CET students: when a student has completed approximately 50% of their training program, they are eligible and in fact, encouraged to begin using the Career Center. The following services are offered:

  • Learn How to create a Resume, Reference, Cover Letter and Fact Sheet
  • Learn How to Search for a Job — Online and Newspaper
  • Learn How to Apply for a Job — Practice a Job Application
  • Learn How to Interview for a Job — Mock Interviews
