EZ Electric and CET Partner

EZ Electric is California's premier electrical contractor, designing, installing and servicing residential wiring systems. Founded in 1987, this growth oriented, family run business has recently hired over 27students from several California CET training centers.

CET is proud to have such a strong partnership with EZ Electric — in the past few months, hiring manager, Ken Stern has hired skilled students out of Building Maintenance and Shipping and Receiving training courses. "We really appreciate the outstanding training CET delivers; preparing students with basic math and construction skills, power tool experience, and an introduction to electrical concepts, makes the graduates strong candidates for our entry level apprentice electrician program."

Mr. Stern has been with the company since 1990, and as the Bay Area Operations Manager, his responsibilities include employee training, safety, code compliance and customer satisfaction. He explained, "EZ Electric is a merit based (non-union) company, which means that an employee's progress is solely based on their skills and capabilities. The reason that CET graduates have such a high success rate compared to the general public, is their willingness to build a career and improve their lives. They are rapid learners and are eager to advance. In fact this type of dedication to advancement drives our company growth — we now have over 200 electricians in the field."

The partnership between EZ Electric and CET goes beyond mere employment and/or job placement. In July, Ken conducted a field trip for approximately 25 Building Maintenance students from the Gilroy Center, to a construction site to show first hand, the role of an electrician on the job. Additionally, EZ Electric has generously donated receptacles, switches, panels, wire, boxes, splicing devices and other related materials to CET classrooms to improve the hands-on training and experience that CET students receive. Mr. Stern also attended the June Industrial Advisory Board meeting at the Sobrato Center, to support CET and spend time with students outside of the "interview environment" — a dedicated hiring manager!

The career path for a skilled electrician takes years to progress from an apprentice to Journeyman, to Field Manager and finally to Project Manager. CET graduates, such as Victor Navarro (trained in Gilroy) and Juan Padilla (trained in San Jose) have demonstrated a commitment to EZ Electric to earn these top managerial positions; which include benefits for their families, bi-annual reviews, paid vacation and a company vehicle. Tom Pringle, a Chief Estimator and Marketing Manager with EZ Electric said it best: "Successful employees, like the people we hire from CET, make a successful company".
