Academic Calendar

CET training centers operate year-round, featuring open-entry, open-exit, competency-based training; there are no fixed "semesters".

Students train at their own pace in a highly individualized, non-competitive environment, with over 60% of the training conducted in a hands-on environment. An intensive program — students attend year-round, 6 - 7 hours a day, 5 days a week for an average of 7 months. Classes are conducted for small groups of students which reinforces the individualized training focus; a critical element in the contextual learning model.

CET's unique holistic approach to educational job training offers students a variety of supplemental services.

CET’s doors are open to anyone over the age of seventeen, who wants to learn a skill for placement into a job. CET welcomes prospective students whose maturity, motivation and physical abilities suggest they can successfully complete a chosen program of study.

The admission process has two phases: a general information session and enrollment. Applicants go through an application process that begins with a general information session and a tour of the facility. After the general information session, the applicant receives an information evaluation and then meets with the training team for his or her chosen skills area. The training team explains the training process and career opportunities in the skill area.

Financial Aid (for those that qualify)

Prior to enrolling at CET, all student applicants are encouraged to explore the availability of financial aid funding through state and federal agencies. Financial aid information and application assistance is provided by CET’s financial aid office to help each student and their family with the many options available. CET is approved for the following grants and loans for eligible students:

Grants

The amount of a grant is based on individual need, and does not have to be repaid.

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal SEOG Program
  • Federal Work Study Programs – self-help program which provides part-time jobs for students who are in need of additional earnings to meet education expenses. Earnings from a Federal Work Study job do not have to be repaid.

Loans

  • Federal Stafford (subsidized and unsubsidized)
  • PLUS Loan Program

Students who receive loans to pay for their course of instruction must realize that it is their responsibility to repay the full amount of the loan. Additional information on eligibility requirements, alternate financing, amounts available, interest rates, scholarships, and repayment schedules is available from the financial aid office.

Career Services

CET offers career services to all students, including alumni. CET supports and encourages students in the job search process, and will provide techniques on seeking and securing employment. Career services include assistance with:

  • resume writing
  • interviewing
  • identifying job openings
  • guidance on dressing for success
  • other job search activities.

Job Preparation

A Social Security number is intended to accurately record your earnings, and is a must to work in this country. You will use your Social Security card as one of the necessary forms of identification required on the Employment Eligibility Verification Form (Form I-9), that most employers will require.

If you need a Social Security number but are not eligible for one, you can apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).

You can receive information on where to apply from the following website:

Additionally, students may wish to obtain a Driver's License, or a State Identification Card, to use as identification for job applications.

Basic Education/Vocational ESL (Optional Services)

In order to make it possible for students to obtain the necessary job skills, CET integrates basic education in reading and mathematics as well as Vocational English, as a Second Language instruction for those who have had less formal education or who have limited English-speaking proficiency. Vocational English and basic education skills are integrated into skill training and are taught in the context of the specific occupational skill in which the student is enrolled.

Drug Awareness Program

An area of special interest in Life Skills is drug awareness and substance abuse prevention. CET follows Federal Drug Prevention and Awareness program guidelines. CET instructors spend time covering the effects of drugs, alcohol, and other substances on the individual, the family, and the community.

CET's unique holistic approach to educational job training offers students a variety of supplemental services.
