About CET Oakland

Oakland Branch Services

This facility, located in the midst of one of the highest density low-income neighborhoods in Oakland, has been successfully used for many years and is well suited for CET job skills training activities. The complex allows for expansion or contraction of classes as demand requires.

The training facility is fully handicapped accessible, with handicapped parking spaces and rest rooms modified for their use. Student and staff parking is more than adequate. The facility is in compliance with all local, ADA and OSHA requirements.

CET's Oakland training facility is located at 8390 Capwell Drive Oakland and consists of a building with approximately 8,300 sq feet used for student training.

Vocational and job-skills training is provided at our facility well as some outdoor space within the overall complex.

CET Oakland has served Alameda County for some 17 years and has repeatedly demonstrated its capacity to serve many students each year. Capacity hovers around 75 student/clients in daily attendance.

Locally, we have maintained an average placement rate of over 80% during most of our years of service to Alameda County.

The Oakland CET office offers training programs for a variety of skills including:

  • Medical Administrative Assistant
  • Medical Clerk
  • Shipping,Receiving and Warehouse Operations
  • Building Maintenance (Coming January 2005)

Counseling, Recruitment, Job Development and administrative services are also housed within the Capwell Drive complex.

Classes are Monday thru Friday from 8:00 to 3:00 p.m.

The Oakland Center's Director, Art Gonzalez, has been with CET for the past 13 months. Mr. Gonzalez is a member of the Workforce Investment Act and participates in PIC (Private Industry Council) activities. Prior to his work at CET, Art worked in the Information Technology field for several years.

CET Students train 5 days a week, 7 hours day, at their own pace, attending skills and job training until they pass competency levels of a minimum 70% in a given skill. They are trained by instructors who have extensive private sector industry experience, whereby they provide instruction and work-place simulated supervision, to best prepare students for long-term job placement. Instructors work in teams to provide a contextual learning environment for each student.

CET, a non-profit 501(c)(3), has received funding support from two primary sources: over 50% from local, state, and federal government and the remainder from the private sector.
