EASTBAY Works Promotes Workforce Development Through Recruitment and Training

Mary ReedEd McMillan, a Workforce Development Professional, is working for EASTBAY Works, Inc. as the Business Services Coordinator for the 18 One-Stop Business and Career Centers in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. In this capacity, Ed is identifying and helping to expand the services that the Centers can offer to business and employers; his work in the community has made a significant impact on the CET Oakland Center.

EASTBAY Works is a Regional System with over 150 partners made up of Community Based and Faith Based Organizations, Community Colleges and Adult Education, Economic Development Agencies throughout the East Bay, Social Services Agencies, The Department of Rehabilitation, Chambers of Commerce, the Employment Development Department and other agencies that are involved in getting people to work in sustainable employment.

After graduating from the University of San Francisco, Ed went to the Naval Officer Candidate Training School in Newport Rhode Island and spent 3 years as an Operations Officer in the Navy making two tours to Vietnam. After the Navy, Ed spent 31 years in the Retail Industry, managing stores throughout the Northwest for a large National Retailer.

After 31 years in Retail, it was now time to give something back and Ed found this position with EASTBAY Works to be an ideal way to give back to the community through helping people find sustainable employment in a tough economy. To this end, Ed works with the business and employer community to help them solve their workforce development issues through recruitment and training.

With the ever-increasing need for life long training and continuing skill development for all of us, Ed works with providers such as CET to market their programs in the EASTBAY Works system so that both job seekers and employers can take advantage of bottom line training. It is through agencies, such as CET, that job seekers can find low or no cost training that will enable them to find work that is meaningful and will provide a productive place in the community.
