English Classes

Within CET, the Immigration and Citizenship Program seeks to empower the community by providing high-quality immigration and citizenship services and by promoting and strengthening civic involvement among the immigrant population. A cornerstone of our program is English as a Second Language (ESL)/English Literacy and Civics (EL Civics) classes. These classes serve a pressing need to actively promote adult literacy, thereby empowering marginalized community members, increasing rates of civic participation, and enabling family literacy traditions.

These classes use an ESL curriculum in conjunction with CASAS objectives and California English Literacy and Civics requirements. Students learn English through context-based learning modules that are centered on life skills necessary for civic participation, such as opening a bank account, attending a parent-teacher conference, and accessing healthcare resources.

We offer our English classes at no cost to our students.

Students are placed into one of four levels ranging from Beginning to Advanced. All classes meet from Monday through Thursday, 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
