Trainees will master job related tasks in the following competency
areas:
PC Introduction and Safety: Identify basic components
of a PC system and follow safety procedures when maintaining
PC system and accessories.
Motherboard, CPU and Memory: Recognize different
system board form factors, understand PC architecture; identify
expansion bus and cards; assess overall performance of CPU, memory,
and bus.
Storage and Peripherals: Explain how data is stored
on floppy and hard disks. Understand CD-ROM, DVD and CD-W operation
and installation; demonstrate how to install and test them; identify
internal and external add-on peripherals; install them, configure
them and explain how they work.
Printers: Identify basic types of printers and
components and how they work; know how to configure them in the
Windows environment and troubleshoot mechanical and software problems.
Networks: Understand basic Ethernet networking
infrastucture; demonstrate how to prepare cables and implement the
physical wiring; demonstrate how to configure Windows network devices
and troubleshoot basic problems.
HW Diagnosing and troubleshooting: Identify and
interpret symptoms and error messages, use utilities to diagnose
problems and use appropriate tools to troubleshoot electronic problems.
Customer Service & Laptops: Identify and demonstrate
behaviors that contribute to customer service satisfaction. Understand
architecture and main components of Laptop computers, identify the
differences from desktop systems; demonstrate how to configure and
troubleshoot Laptops.
Windows NT and 2000: Learn fundamentals of Windows
NT/2000, know how to install, configure, and troubleshoot the operating
system problems; explain basic procedures of Client/Server network.
Internet, Office 2000, and Third party SW: Explain
how the Internet works, and the role of Browser and Websites; demonstrate
the use of Microsoft Word and Excel; install non-windows and third-party
applications.
SW Diagnosing and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and
troubleshoot common problems related to the operating system and/or
installed applications. Acquire appropriate tools and use them correctly
in real work situations.
Windows 2000 Professional & Administration:
Administer local security and networking protocols, and prepare
for MCP certification.
