Effective July 1, 2003 Trainees will master job related tasks in the following competency areas:
Basic Principles of Accounting: Learn and apply basic accounting principles and procedures including hands-on work simulations. Understanding accounting equation and cycle, asset, liability, equity, P& L, general ledger, balance sheet, income statement, journalizing transactions, etc.
Accounting Systems: Demonstrate ability to use computerized accounting software to perform basic accounting functions; perform hands-on work simulations.
Spreadsheets: Format a spreadsheet including formulas. Maintain, enhance and edit a worksheet. Work with multiple worksheets.
Payroll: Maintain an employee database; calculate taxes and other deductions; produce paychecks and registers.
Business Math: Learn and apply fundamental math for accounting operations.
Calculator Skills: Attain increased speed and accuracy using a calculator to perform math operations of accounting.
Keyboarding/Computer Basics: Learn and demonstrate basic key-boarding, formatting, and general computer functions.
Word Processing: Attain increased speed and accuracy in advanced keyboarding and document formatting, including the five word processing functions.
Communications: Learn and apply technical terminology of the accounting field including spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and business correspondence.
General Office Skills: Learn through theory and practice the use of office equipment and mailing procedures, proper, telephone customer service, and systems of filing used in accounting.
Average Course Length: 900 hours ( 25 weeks)
