In the last 44 years, Center for Employment Training has served over 130,000 individuals. CET’s populations represent a diverse group of individuals from all walks of life. Branches located in urban areas such as San Jose, Chicago, Durham, serve veterans, single parents, ex-offenders, TANF recipients, dislocated or disabled workers, immigrants and youth. While in more rural areas such as in California, CET provides skill training for migrant and seasonal farmworkers. After completing CET training, the success migrant and seasonal farmworkers achieve is amazing, with an average increase of 400% in wages. CET’s success is a direct result of its model’s flexibility, integrating into the community and local economy.

Trainees at CET often need guidance, support and financial assistance to address their immediate and long-term employment needs. To be effective these services must be provided by staff that is familiar with and sensitive to cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic life conditions. Few agencies or organizations have the cultural sensitivity, organizational capacity or staff capabilities required to serve the targeted groups. CET, however, is nationally recognized for its demonstrated effectiveness in serving the needs of hard-to-serve populations, a commitment that has driven this organization since its founding in 1967.

CET’s contextual training design has proven effective in helping individuals acquire sufficient skills and knowledge to obtain stable, full-time employment. The CET training sites offer a broad range of skill training choices designed to prepare participants for high-demand occupations within the regional labor market, including Accounting Clerk, Automotive Specialist, Business Office Technology, Customer Service, Culinary Arts, Graphic Design, Early Childhood Teacher Assistant, Forklift Operator/Warehouse Specialist, Green Building Construction Skills, HVAC Technician, Machine Tool Operator, Medical Clerk and Medical Insurance Billing, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Equipment Repair Specialist, Shipping and Receiving Warehouse Operations, Truck Driver, and Welding Fabrication.
