A New Beginning, January 28, 2006
|
28,2006, a new beginning was to start, as well, for 80 CET-Sobrato Center student graduates at the Anthony R. Soto Theatre in San Jose, California. These were students graduating from training programs such as Desktop Publishing, Medical Administrative Assistant, Building Maintenance, Culinary Arts, Business Office Technologies, Automotive, Accounting, and other skills. These individuals made a seven month commitment at CET to learn a skill leading to a change their lives. And, on this day, their families were here to join in the celebration of their accomplishments.
| Deborah Carrizosa, a graduate from CET's Desktop Publishing class, spoke of her life and struggles before attending CET. She said, CET gave her the confidence and skills to go out and get a job. Well, fortunately she didn't have to go very far. Her instructor, Mr. Adam King, was so impressed with her work, that he recommended her for a position in CET's own print shop. She is now a full-time employee with benefits. |

Cindy Chavez, Vice-Mayor of San Jose, was the Keynote Speaker. She spoke of her parents' commitment to education and how her mother, even now, takes classes to better herself. She told our graduates how proud she was to see them commit to bettering the lives of not only themselves, but also of their families. She wished them success in the future and encouraged them to continue their education. Hopefully, she stated, this would be the first of many graduations for them Closing the ceremony, Hermelinda Sapien, CET's President & CEO, congratulated all the graduates and their families and let them know not only how proud she was of their accomplishments, but how proud she was to say that they are part of CET's second 100,000 group of graduates! |
